Two Dead After Officer-Involved Shooting in West Memphis, State Police Say



WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (WATN) – Arkansas State Police are investigating after a deadly officer-involved shooting Wednesday night in West Memphis.

It happened about 9:30 p.m. along 18th Street. According to West Memphis Police, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop in which two people were inside the suspect vehicle. The driver refused to stop. WMPD says the driver then rammed several squad cars and ran over an officer. WMPD says shots were fired and the man and woman in the car were struck and died at the scene.

The injured officer was taken to a local hospital in non-critical condition, and has since been released.

Arkansas State Police was called in to investigate. Once that is completed, the case will be turned over to a prosecutor for review and to determine if any charges will be filed.

WEST MEMPHIS, Ark.- State Police confirm two people are dead after an officer-involved shooting Wednesday night. 

According to our sister station WATN, it happened around 9:30 p.m. 

According to West Memphis Police, the incident happened at 18th Street and McAuley. 

Police say one officer was injured after being hit by a vehicle, but is said to have non-life-threatening injuries. 

State Police say troopers are on the scene, and as of 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, investigators are en route.

At this time, it is not clear what led to the shooting.

State Police say more information will be available Thursday.
