UCA Students Impressed With Police Response to Recent Crime Surge

CONWAY, AR — It was a quiet Monday, but the UCA campus had an armed robbery over the weekend.

According to police, a green SUV with three black males was at the center of a botched drug deal on Western Avenue near Bruce and College Avenue.

Benton Short delivers pizza in the area and has been for two years, during which time he said he’s seen it grow more and more dangerous.

“It’s getting that way with the party life and everything,” Short said.

UCA students said they’ve noticed an increase in crime also.

“It is a big issue it’s happened several times, but they’re very good at letting us know,” said UCA sophomore Shelby Atnip.

She said campus police do a great job keeping students aware of potentially dangerous situations.

“They have an alert system they’ll send you texts and they’ll call you,” she said.

“They stay on top of it but you just have some bad kids from out-of-town,” Short said. “Coming in and nobody knows who they are they can do whatever they want.”

Not the best way to start off the second semester, but both Short and Atnip feel authorities are doing their best.
