Update: 17-Year-Old driver in fatal wreck at U of A will not face adult charges, prosecutor says

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- The 17-year-old driver in a fatal accident on the University of Arkansas campus will not face any adult charges, according to the Washington County prosecuting attorney. 

The accident took place on February 2 at Garland Avenue between the Garland Parking Garage and a set of dorms, according to University of Arkansas Police. 

Andrea Torres, an 18-year-old student from Clarksville, died on February 4. 

University police cited the 17-year-old girl, who is from Little Rock, for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and use of a handheld device while driving.

According to the Washington County prosecuting attorney Matt Durrett, the case has been turned over to the juvenile court system, and further information will not be released due to juvenile confidentiality.
