HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Police say two suspects robbed two owners of a gas station at gunpoint on Monday. One suspect is in custody; police are still searching for the second suspect.
Around 12:30 p.m., two suspects robbed two owners of a Valero, located near the 3200 block of Central Avenue.
The Hot Springs Police Department (HSPD) says the owners had in their possession, approximately $15,800 in cash deposits from the store. As they were getting into their vehicle, they were approached by two suspects. Officers say the suspects both had handguns and robbed the owners by forcibly taking the cash from them.
Jamal Devon Brewer, 20, of Hot Springs was in possession of $5,295 in cash and bank deposit slips belonging to the victims at the time of his arrest, and he also had a Failure to appear warrant.
According to the official report, one officer was patrolling the area and heard one of the owners scream.
The report states that the officer saw a GMC Acadia fleeing the area, and began to pursue the vehicle. Officials say the GMC Acadia stopped between Pro Signs and Graphics, and Colton’s Steak House. Once the officer pulled behind the vehicle, the suspects fled on foot. As the suspects fled on foot, they began dropping cash as they ran, officials said.
Multiple HSPD officers responded to the area and set up a perimeter. One person, who matched the suspect description was located in the area. Two officers saw Jamal Brewer in an apartment complex near Higdon Ferry Road. Upon seeing the officers, Jamal Brewer fled the scene, but the officers quickly caught and arrested Jamal Brewer.
Jamal Brewer was booked into the Garland County Detention Center for aggravated robbery, theft of property, fleeing and failure to appear. Brewer is being held without bond.
