The most recent victim was a 71-year-old man who was shot at his home on Dreher Lane.
The victim’s stepmother was devastated and said it was senseless act of crime.
Betty Parker didn’t expect this to be how her stepson’s life would end.
“I tried to call him and his roommate called me back and said he had been shot in the lower abdomen,” Parker said.
She lives on Dreher Lane and said this isn’t the first shooting she’s ever heard.
“There were 9 gunshots last night and I called them in,” Parker said.
Less than 24 hours later Parker said a second shooting happened leaving her family member dead.
“I heard 3 gunshots and and it sounded like they came from the apartments,” Parker said.
She said her stepson was watching TV when it happened.
“It came either through the window or the wall on the other side of the house,” Parker said.
“It’s most definitely a sad situation,” said LRPD Lt. Michael Ford.
The victim’s name has not been released.
Dreher Lane and parts of the Spanish Valley Apartments were blocked off for the shooting investigation.
Detectives brought in a Crime Scene Unit and took photos.
“We are actively out here knocking on doors and reaching out to the residents that live around here to try and figure out if they heard any gunshots today,” Lt. Ford added.
Parker turned 74 Saturday, but she never planned to celebrate her birthday mourning the loss of her stepson.
“No they were going to take me out to eat. He was just really sweet and looks out after me,” Parker said.
