Viewing, Funeral for Slain AR Deputy

SEBASTIAN COUNTY, Ark. – A viewing is underway in Greenwood for a sheriff’s deputy who was killed in the line of duty last week.

Cpl. Bill Cooper, 64, who served with the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), died Wednesday morning when a gunman opened fire on law enforcement officers who were called to a disturbance in a rural area.

The viewing is being held at the First Baptist Church Greenwood, 19 N. Adair Street, in Greenwood. It began at 2 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, funeral services will he held for Deputy Cooper. They begin at 10 a.m. at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 800 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Burial will follow at Oak Cemetery, 1401 S. Greenwood in Fort Smith.

Cpl. Cooper had been employed with the SCSO since 2001 and had also served five years with the Fort Smith Police Department. He had also served with the United States Marine Corps.
