Vigil Held for Man Killed by Pit Bulls

PINE BLUFF, AR — A relative sang a song warming the air on the cool Saturday evening. Family and friends gathered to remember Detrick Johnson.

“It’s been very hard,” said Akimi Johnson.

The 36-year-old was killed last Saturday. Deputies say a pack of pit bulls attacked Johnson at CJ’s Garage on Thomas Road.

“I’ve still been looking for the phone to ring. It’s kind of hard, him not calling me,” said Johnson.

With his favorite color worn by loved ones, a pastor from his local church shared a scripture. Family then released balloons into the night sky.

As Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies work to prosecute John Smith, the owner of the garage, family says all they can do is wait.

“I feel like justice will be served when it needs to be served,” said Johnson.
