MONTICELLO, Ark. — A baseball player is hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle in Monticello.

20-year-old  Joseph D. Cerda, Jr. of Southeast Oklahoma State University was seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision on Highway 425 North.

Cerda is from San Antonio, Texas.

The SOSU baseball team played a doubleheader against UA Monticello Saturday afternoon.

A group of the visiting players were crossing the highway on foot when the collision occurred.

Witnesses told Arkansas State Troopers a “dark color car”  struck the young man and drove away without stopping.

Cerda was transported to a Monticello hospital and later airlifted to be treated at a Little Rock hospital.

Anyone with information about a better description of the car or any information that may help law enforcement identify the driver is asked to call the Arkansas State Police at (870) 226-3713, or the Monticello Police Department at (870) 367-3411.
