LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The saying goes what goes around comes around.
However, Sarahjane Lay, mother of 5-year-old, Layna Marie O’Marra, never expected a Christmas in January after purchasing $30 worth of gift cards to hand out to the construction workers on I-630.
“Every Thanksgiving we like to give gift cards to those who do so much for our city, police, fireman,” says Lay. “Yet, I never expected Layna to pick construction workers.”
Lay says her daughter was adamant about giving gift cards to the workers because her daughter told her she saw how hard they worked to keep the streets safe for them to drive on.
“We take I-630 everywhere,” explains Lay. “I’m so proud because it shows me the heart my daughter has and the importance of humanity.”
On Tuesday, the family received a surprise of their life when workers from the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) and Manhattan Road & Bridge showed up at their door with gifts for Layna.
“It was a huge surprise,” says Lay. “We did this month ago and to think they still remembered means it really mattered to them.”
