BEEBE, Ark. – There is a long road to recovery for a couple of single moms and their children after an unexplained house fire nearly took one mother and her child’s life.
“They still don’t know what caused the fire,” says Morgan Kittler, one of the moms in the house when it went up in flames.
Kittler and her 3-year-old son, Jace, live with Amber Mixon and her two children.
Mixon and her children weren’t home when the fire started, but Kittler and Jace were in the home taking a nap when Kittler says she was woken up by her son.
“My son Jace was sleeping on me on the couch and was like Mom and I could see the horror in his eyes,” explains Kittler. ” I turned around and within a few feet from me, the whole wall was up in flames.”
The small brick bungalow home on West Fisher Street was completely engulfed in flames. Kittler and her son were barely able to escape the house and say they are lucky to be alive.
“We went from having everything to absolutely nothing now,” explains Kittler. “It was really hard to look at everything after four years of saving up and having all this stuff gone – just like that.”
Although their lives were spared their puppy Gizmo died in the fire.
An outpouring of support has continued from neighbors, friends, and even strangers, the ladies said.
From donations to a GoFundMe account the community has come together to help the moms and their children.
