Arkansas coach Chad Morris brought in some impressive players at midterm including wide receiver Trey Knox.
Knox was one of the standouts this spring, but certainly not the only newcomer who turned heads. Morris is still trying to add to the Class of 2019. When asked about recruiting on Saturday night following the spring game Morris mentioned what remains in 2019.
“We ain’t got enough time to talk about recruiting right now because I could talk about it all day long, but I think we’re definitely on track,” Morris said. “I’m excited about where the 2020 class is going. We’ve got a lot of work to do. Coaches will get on the road I think the 15th of April. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, a lot of long hours and lot of video to be watched, practices to be seen and coaches needed to be talked to. That 2020 class definitely is a huge priority.
“Our 2019 class, how many scholarships do we have available? I think I have two remaining right now. I believe that’s right.”
What is the priority for those two scholarships remaining in 2019?
“We’ll continue to look, and whether whatever comes out there, linebacker and the secondary is the main focus for us, right now,” Morris said. “That’s where we’re looking.”
Arkansas currently has seven scholarship linebackers on the team and have one signed, Richmond (Texas) Fort Bend Travis’ Zach Zimos, so far. De’Jon Harris is the lone senior linebacker on the squad.
In the secondary, Arkansas has six scholarship cornerbacks and five safeties. Arkansas has Rison’s Malik Chavis and Mansfield (Texas) Legacy’s Jalen Catalon coming in this summer to help in the secondary.
Arkansas also has some preferred walk-on players coming in this summer to help at the positions mentioned by Morris. Jonesboro linebacker Logan Orr and Highland Park (Texas) defensive back Hudson Clark.
