OXFORD, MS – The Ole Miss Rebels pounded out 21 hits Tuesday night in downing the University of Central Arkansas Bears 18-4 in non-conference play at Swayze Field.
The Bears (19-15) scored first on Matt Anderson’s RBI single in the top of the first, but the Rebels (21-20) put up eight runs in the bottom of the inning, and then six more in the second to put the game out of reach early. UCA scored single runs in the second, third and seventh innings but could not keep up with the Rebels’ offense.
UCA finished with 12 hits but stranded 13 runners, including three in the first inning and two in the ninth. Anderson led the UCA attack, going 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Wesley Hoover, Charles Deckard and Brad Dillenberger had two hits each for the Bears. Tyler Langley had an RBI single in the second inning, while Anderson doubled and scored on Dillenberger’s base hit up the middle in the third.
In the seventh, Anderson led off with a single, Deckard followed with a double and Dillenberger’s ground out scored Anderson with UCA’s fourth run. UCA starter Corey Herndon took the loss while Ole Miss starter Mitchell Babb got the victory.
The 18 runs were the most allowed by UCA since an 18-14 loss to UT-Arlington in 2011.
