The realignment wheels are turning again. It’s becoming more and more likely that Florida St. and Clemson are preparing to bolt the ACC for the BIG12, with Georgia Tech possibly not far behind – can you say ironic?

This the same BIG12 that was dead man walking this time last year, OU and Texas appeared destined for the PAC 12, while Texas A&M and Missouri were mailing in their request to join the SEC.

Since then, they’ve negotiated a rich new TV deal, while joining forces with the SEC in setting up a conference championship (similar to the PAC12, BIG10 deal). So all of a sudden the BIG12 has gone from pitiful to powerful, becoming a destination spot for a few football first schools in the hoops centric ACC.

Hence, what brings us to this point in college football, where change is happening at break neck speed. The BIG12’s poaching of the ACC, has privately brought a smile to SEC commish Mike Slive. The potential ransacking of the ACC means long coveted schools such as Virginia Tech, North Carolina and NC State could become fair game for a hunting Slive. Eager to expand the League’s footprint for an upcoming SEC Network, Slive knows the value those schools bring (new markets, large population bases).

Expect the SEC to aggressively pursue two of the three to raise the league’s membership to 16, which would equate to a financial windfall for a conference already bathing in the Benjamins. Slive should send the BIG12 a thank you note.
