Severe weather threat continues into very early Saturday morning

Weather Headlines

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – FRIDAY 10:30 PM UPDATE – After wrapping up one episode on Wednesday and earlier Friday in south Arkansas, we still have a threat of severe weather into very early Saturday morning.

The first round began late this morning and has since concluded. Coverage was mainly across south and north Arkansas with damaging winds and some large hail reported.

The second round developed ahead of an approaching low pressure system and associated cold front.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for far east and northeast Arkansas until 11 p.m. Another watch will likely be issued for more of the state a little bit later this evening.

CONCERNS:

For the second round, the main concern will be damaging straight-line wind with speeds ranging from 60-80 MPH+. A brief tornado or two along this line of expected storms cannot be ruled out either.

While the tornado risk is lower, this shouldn’t cause you to let your guard down. The straight-line wind threat has the potential to be significant tonight with the second round. While we also emphasize that you should take all warnings seriously, it is important to stress to pay extra attention to severe thunderstorm warnings tonight.
